Why You Need a Romantic Winter Vacation

Our scenic home of North Carolina is picturesque throughout the year, but especially when the temperatures drop and the crowds thin. In the wintertime, North Carolina transforms into the perfect destination for a romantic winter getaway.

From snow-dusted mountain retreats to cozy coastal escapes, the state offers couples a variety of ways to relax, reconnect, and create unforgettable memories.

Let's explore why a winter vacation is the perfect romantic getaway and what there is to do in the area once you arrive!

Does North Carolina Receive Snow in the Winter?

North Carolina gets a wide range of snowfall depending on the region.

  • Western NC: The highest elevations in the Blue Ridge and Great Smoky Mountains get the most snow, with places like Beech Mountain, Boone, and Asheville receiving anywhere from 10 to 50+ inches per year. Some ski resorts, like Sugar Mountain and Beech Mountain, get even more, making this the snowiest part of the state.

  • Central NC: Cities like Charlotte, Greensboro, and Raleigh see much less snow, typically only 1 to 5 inches per year, with some winters bringing no snow at all. When snow does fall, it's often light or mixed with ice.

  • Eastern NC: The coast, including Wilmington and the Outer Banks, rarely sees snow. When it does happen, it’s usually a light dusting or a rare winter storm.

Western North Carolina gets plenty of snow every winter and makes for some of the best and most romantic winter escapes.
