The Veteran's History Museum of the Carolinas: Now Open

Situated in the center of downtown Brevard, North Carolina, the Veterans History Museum of the Carolinas honors the courage and dedication of service members from both North and South Carolina.

Since its founding in 2016, this museum provides an immersive experience, shedding light on the personal journeys of veterans from World War I through modern-day military engagements in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Let's take a closer look at the museum and what it offers for both locals and visitors.

Historical Exhibits

WWI Exhibit (1914-1918)

WWI had and continues to have a significant and incalculable impact on our Nation and the world. Originating in Europe and considered the first modern war, World War I was one of the largest and deadliest wars up to that point in history.

The WWI exhibit showcases weaponry, uniforms, equipment, and artifacts taken from that period. The gallery is highlighted by a reproduction of a WWI trench complete with an authentically unfirmed Doughboy from the 42nd Division.

WWII (1939-1945)

The largest and deadliest war in the history of mankind, WWII will never be forgotten. This exhibits aims to show visitors artifacts, weaponry and uniforms from this time period and is divided into two section: The European Theater of Operations (ETO) and the Pacific Theater of Operations (PTO).

This new word struck fear into the heart of Europe and led to WWII a war that became the largest and deadliest armed conflict in the history of humankind.

The Korean War (1950-1953)

Weapons and artifacts from the Korean and Cold War are on display in this exhibit including an actual Chaplin Kit used in the Korean War and an infrared sniper scope. There are also informational and education resources on the Veteran's History Museum of the Carolinas that discuss each exhibit and share first-hand accounts.

The Vietnam War

This exhibit puts each visitor in a realistic artillery observer's jungle outpost complete with actual weapons and equipment. This is one of the most life-like and popular exhibits in the museum and there are mannequins outfitted in both Vietnam period uniforms and flight suits.

War on Terror

The War on Terror Exhibit highlights the equipment, uniforms and weapons that were used during both the wars in the Gulf and Afghanistan.

Notable Exhibits

One of the standout displays in the museum is without a doubt the World War II Willys Jeep exhibit, featuring a meticulously restored 1943 Jeep.

Displayed in a setting that mirrors an Army Post Office from the European theater, the scene is brought to life with authentic sandbags and seized enemy relics. This exhibit offers visitors a hands-on glimpse into the conditions soldiers experienced during wartime.

The Battle of Okinawa is also on display through the Korean War display. These displays offer a deep look into the sacrifice of veterans and pivotal moments in our history.
